Q: Can I get an appointment the same day I call?

A: We pride ourselves at how quickly we can accommodate our patients. It is very common to get an appointment the same day. Physical exams are typically scheduled within six weeks.

Q: Will I be able to speak to my doctor if I call?

A: With the physicians seeing scheduled patients, your call will be directed to the doctor's personal nurse who will assist you with your concern or pass along your request to the physician. Please be aware that the doctor may not be able to call you back immediately.

Q: Will you submit my claims to my insurance company?

A: Yes, we will submit your claim to your insurance company. We do not contract with any insurance companies and have opted out of Medicare. Your claim will be processed according to your out-of-network coverage with payment sent directly to you. We encourage you to review your insurance policy or contact your insurance company regarding your out-of-network benefits.

Q: What do you mean by "opted out" of Medicare?

A: This means the physicians have chosen not to participate in the Medicare program and cannot submit claims for reimbursement to Medicare. For more clarification, click here or call our office to speak with Denise.

Q: Where is Specialists in Internal Medicine located?

A: We are located in the Minneapolis Heart Institute building on the Campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital on 28th Street between Chicago & 10th Avenues. Map and directions.

Q: Is parking available?

A: A parking ramp is located between our building (Minneapolis Heart Institute) and Abbott Northwestern Heart Hospital, which is accessible by skyway. Map and directions.

Q: Will you validate my parking card?

A: Parking tickets are validated for patients on our SIMPA Gold and Senior VIP Tier 1, 2, or 3. Valet parking is not included.

Q: What hospital(s) are the physicians affiliated with?

A: We proudly and exclusively refer our patients to Abbott Northwestern Hospital where you have the option of being followed by our physicians or, if preferred, can choose to be followed by a hospitalist.

Q: How do prescriptions get refilled?

A: Call your pharmacy first to verify remaining refills. If no refills are available, ask the pharmacy to fax our office a request. Our nurses will review your chart and authorize additional refills.

Q: I travel a lot and would like to carry a copy of my medical records with me. How can I do that?

A: We can copy your chart records onto a flash drive at a nominal fee. This fee is waived under our Executive Health Care, SIMPA Gold and Senior VIP Tier 1 programs.

Q: What does it mean to come fasting before my appointment?

A: Fasting means nothing to eat or drink except water for at least 8 hours. This includes avoiding coffee and tea. You may take your medications with water only and continue to drink water to keep yourself well hydrated before your appointment.
